From the earliest days of visualising the Affinity range, we planned an unrivalled trio of sleek, super-modern apps created to work with the latest technology—ultra-fast, with stunning power and completely stripped of bloat. That vision comes a step closer to completion with the launch of our desktop publishing app Affinity Publisher in a free public beta.

Affinity Publisher is the result of thousands of hours of development time dedicated by the multi-award-winning team at our UK headquarters. The free public beta is open to anyone, as long as your computer meets the system requirements.

I assume 2. Serif has seeded the market, with many people buying the low cost AP 1. I’m sure its business plan depends on getting as many as possible of those numerous AP 1. X users to pay for the upgrade to 2.

So there will have to be a few major killer features, not just minor new options that few people need or understand.

And the upgrade price has to seem reasonable to people who didn’t pay much for AP 1. For example, will there be a new Persona, with all-new capabilities? Will it have a serious RAW developer? I’m guessing a DAM will be a big new feature, they said they wouldn’t start seriously working on one until after Publisher was released, and an integrated DAM for the Affinity suite seems an obvious release 2 feature.

Personally, I will upgrade regardless. They are using an App model pricing scheme where the costs involved are low and therefore so is the barrier to purchase. The other aspect is that given their track record of providing free updates for years I will want to support them. I use Faststone and every couple of years I donate to support the developer. Yes, I expect that I’ll upgrade to 2. Serif is certainly worthy of support. Not only is the software both excellent and remarkably inexpensive, and all the upgrades to date free, but it also provides lots of really good free educational videos short, but content-filled.

I simply can’t think of another software vendor that provides so much for so little. The last time I was notified of a new version, it was free and I’ve been running 1. I don’t know what I’d be tempted to pay for as far as an upgrade I seem to remember reading a while back that 1.

I could be wrong, but it would be the first time this year. That seems to be the case. Latest Affinity Photo beta version. So are several others which I won’t mention and two of which which I currently use ,that’s why I won’t pay for an upgraded AP without a capable converter.

While it boasted quite a few advanced features, it was accompanied by a hefty price tag. DJI has pared down this offering a bit with their latest subg release, the Mini 3. Is it worth the investment? It’s powered by the same impressive tech that guides self-driving vehicles and can detect and avoid obstacles from every angle.

Can it overcome a lackluster camera to win hearts and minds? The latest iteration of ON1 Software’s flagship Raw editor is jam-packed with AI smarts that aim to lighten your workload by taking subjects into account when making selections, applying presets, keywording and more.
